Most reported sanctuary incidents and violations are not emergencies and should be referred to the sanctuary office 415-464-5260. For all other incidents, please see below:
Search and Rescue Emergencies should be reported to the U.S. Coast Guard on VHF radio Channel 16. If it is necessary to call by phone, the U.S. Coast Guard, Sector San Francisco's Search and Rescue unit may be reached at 415-399-3530.
Sanctuary Violations should be reported to the NOAA Enforcement Hotline at 800-853-1964 (Available 24hrs a day).
Hazardous Materials Spills and Maritime Security Issues:anyone witnessing an oil spill, chemical release or maritime security issue should call the US Coast Guard National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802. Oil and chemical spills in California state waters should also be reported to the California Office of Emergency Services Warning Center at 1-800-852-7550.
Hazards to Navigation within the sanctuary should be reported to the U.S. Coast Guard Bodega Bay at 707-875-3596 (available 24hrs a day). Be prepared to give the last known location of the hazard.
Entangled Whales should be reported to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Whale Disentanglement HOTLINE: 877-SOS-WHALE (877-767-9425). Any sighting of an entangled whale should be reported. If possible, vessels should stand-by and keep the whale in sight until help arrives.
